Biography
An active soloist and avid chamber musician, pianist Andrei Baumann has performed extensively in the USA, Europe, Canada and Venezuela. As winner of the 2009 Borromeo String Quartet Guest Artist Award, he performed Dvorak Piano Quintet with the quartet in Jordan Hall on January 29th, 2009. His Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall occurred in May 2008 with violinist Lily Francis as part of the Distinctive Debuts series. Other recent notable performances include a solo recital on the Sunday's Live Concert Series at Los Angeles County Arts Museum which was broadcast by KCSN, 88.5 FM, an appearance in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in Adamant Music School’s Gala Performance, a recital with the Euroca Quintet in Jordan Hall as winners of the New England Conservatory (NEC) Chamber Music Honors Competition and as winner of the NEC Beethoven Piano Sonatas Honors Competition, which resulted in another Jordan Hall appearance. Additionally, Mr. Baumann was a prize-winner in the Steinway Society of Boston Piano Competition. Other noteworthy performances have included a solo recital in the Crocker Art Museum Classical Music Series in Sacramento, California; a duo recital at the Caramoor Festival; and a performance with Itzhak Perlman at the Perlman Music Program. In May 2008, he was invited to participate in a chamber music workshop in Venezuela with a group of students and faculty from NEC and members of the Simón Bolivar Youth Orchestra.
Andrei has performed in masterclasses for such distinguished artists as Elisso Wirssaladze, Pavel Gililov, Leon Fleisher, Claude Frank and Marc Durand. Among the numerous festivals he has participated in are Corsi in Sermoneta, Italy; Ost-West Musikfest in Krems, Austria; Internationaler Kammermusikkurs in Böhlen, Germany; Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland; Banff Centre for the Arts and Orford Arts Centre in Canada; and in the USA, Aspen Music Festival, Perlman Music Program, Manchester Music Festival and the Adamant Music School.
Mr. Baumann has a Masters of Music in Piano Performance from New England Conservatory, where he studied with Vivian Hornik Weilerstein. He received his Künstlerischer Ausbildung Diploma in June 2006 from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany, as a student of Shoshana Rudiakov. His Bachelor of Music degree was awarded by the Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada, where his primary teachers were Andre Laplante, John Perry, and Peter Longworth.
Mr. Baumann is currently a member of the Piano Faculty at Encore/Coda Music Camp in Sweden, Maine, and Lexington Music School in Lexington, Massachussets.
